It's one of the most rewarding half-day hikes in Summit County—and in mid-summer, wildflowers turn the entire gulch into a living bouquet.

Starting near the old Mayflower Mine, this hike is a Breckenridge favorite. You’ll pass waterfalls and cabins from the mining era on your way up to two stunning alpine lakes. The views from Upper Mohawk Lake are nothing short of breathtaking, especially in the golden hour light. Bring layers—it’s chilly at 12,000 feet!

The best time to experience spring in Breckenridge is early and often late but really be prepared for snow in April to June do not hike in the mud as it can ruin trails. Any good adventure has a back-up plan. BUT the weather is warm enough to enjoy the trails Summer hiking in the mountains but our recommendation is the "early bird gets the worm" when it comes to hiking. The snow on the peaks offers a stunning backdrop for all your mountain adventures.


What to Pack:


  • Layers: Weather can be unpredictable in the mountains, so bring layers that will keep you comfortable through all conditions.

  • Sunscreen: Even in spring, the Colorado sun can be intense, especially at higher altitudes.

  • Hiking Boots: Trails can be muddy or wet from spring snowmelt, so make sure your boots are waterproof.
