Rocky Mountain Road Trip: Breckenridge to Northern Idaho

The Rockies called.
So we packed the rig and pointed her north.
The rig is lovingly called Blanca Tigre — our bright ceramic white ‘21 Land Cruiser built for mountain roads, long miles, and a little controlled chaos. ARB bumpers. Lifted stance. Good tires. Enough gear strapped on top to survive a zombie apocalypse or a week with mountain brokers in northern Idaho.
Hard to say which is more intense.
This trip starts in our home town, Breckenridge, Colorado.
Peter takes the first driving shift as we head northwest through the high country toward Steamboat Springs — rolling past ranch land, storm clouds, and some incredible eXp Realty listings tucked into the mountains. Real estate scouting disguised as a family road trip? Absolutely.
We push through Craig and toward Rock Springs where the windmills and highway billboards remind you the West gets bigger, emptier, and somehow better the farther north you go.
Crossing into Utah, Lindsey throws a giant peace sign out the window rolling past Utah State University in Logan — her old college town. Some places never really leave you.
By nightfall we’re deep into the road miles:
Pocatello.
Southern Idaho.
Past Idaho Falls where cousins and extended family are scattered across the map like breadcrumbs through the Rockies.
A few hours of sleep inside the rig before dawn.
Or at least until the coyotes decide they want to meet Mac the dog.
At sunrise, Lindsey takes the wheel.
Montana appears the way it always does — quietly and all at once.

We roll into Missoula, our favorite carousel-loving mountain town, just in time to slow down for a night. The next morning starts properly:
coffee,
farmers market,
mud on boots,
dog hair on everything.
Then it’s back into Blanca Tigre.
Kid loaded.
Mac loaded.
Gear packed tight.
Drone batteries.
Computers.
Paddle boards.
Camera bags.
Too many charging cords.
Not enough snacks.
Destination:
an undisclosed lake spot in Northern Idaho for a week of reconnecting, exploring, and meeting up with fellow mountain brokers who understand why nobody living this lifestyle wants a cubicle ever again.

Next episode:
The road home through Wyoming, live music, lake sunrises, and the long way back to Breckenridge.
